An Unforgettable Journey: Photographing a Wedding with Italian Roots at a New Jersey State Park

Just a few days ago, I sold my car. It had been my trusted companion on every adventure, but life is full of unexpected changes, and curiously, those changes often lead us to the most memorable moments. Fate had it that I had a wedding to photograph at one of New Jersey's State Parks right after that sale—an adventure that began in the seat of a bus and ended in the heart of a family shaped by migration and new beginnings. As a wedding photographer based in New York and working across the United States, I've learned that the best stories are born from the unexpected.

The journey started early. I took the bus to the groom's house, on a route that let me take in the urban and green landscapes that define New Jersey. When I arrived, the groom greeted me with a smile and didn't hesitate to offer me a seat in his car to take me to the State Park. Along the way, he shared his family's story with me: Italian immigrants who, like so many others, found in the United States a place to dream and build. His words resonated with pride, nostalgia, and the gratitude of belonging to a generation that honors its roots while embracing new traditions.

The State Park welcomed us with its fall colors and an inspiring quiet. The ceremony was filled with genuine emotions, spontaneous laughter, and Italian songs that connected everyone with a shared past. As I captured the grandparents' gazes, the parents' tears, and the friends' joy, I understood how much meaning each wedding holds: it's far more than a union—it's a living portrait of cultures intertwining in the land of opportunity.

Every image I took that afternoon is a celebration of the stories that unite us. The United States remains a land of immigrants and new opportunities, and photographs like these are my small contribution to keeping those memories alive, shared, and honored. As a wedding photographer working across New York and the United States, I'm reminded daily that our greatest privilege is capturing not just who people are, but the legacy they're building.
